Hector InfanzonHéctor Infanzón, a name unfamiliar to most Caribbean Jazz aficionados, is one of Mexico’s most celebrated Jazz pianists and composers. And, the Embassy of Mexico in Trinidad and Tobago, the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre and Production One Ltd have come together to produce and present this internationally-acclaimed, Mexican Jazz Pianist, in Concert together with his Jazz Quartet, for one night only, on July 24th 2010 at the Cascadia’s Grand Ballroom in St. Ann’s, Port-of-Spain.

The event, titled MéXICAN journey, will present patrons with a Mexican-themed evening of Latin-Jazz, Tequila, Mexican finger-foods and Fun. The evening’s main entertainment element will be Infanzón’s live performance of pieces from his most recent CD – Citadino – which loosely translates as “one from the city”or “urban dweller”.

CITADINO CD cover Infanzón, who has toured with Ricky Martin and performed with Wynton Marsalis, Carlos Santana and José Feliciano, has, on this latest CD, Citadino, introduced elements of the ‘huapango’, a traditional musical style that is popular in Vera Cruz on Mexico’s gulf coast, in an Afro-Caribbean mix. “I am transposing to the piano, the strong percussive and melodic rhythms of traditional Mexican instruments such as the ‘arpas’ (a type of harp), ‘jaranas’ and ‘vihuelas’ (both guitar-like instuments) and violins which are used in the huapango“, says Infanzon.

A main feature of Héctor Infanzón’s compositions is the incorporation of the several musical genres that have influenced him. In his music, Héctor takes a journey in which he gathers the elements from Mexican folklore, Classical music, Latin-American influences and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, framing them all within his personal sound and finally adding to his compositions the element that provides the essence of jazz: improvisation.

This is the music of Héctor Infanzón, always looking for new trends, while shaping a label that identifies it as the urban expression of a composer, born in the heart of Mexico City. And, this is the music that Héctor Infanzón will deliver on July 24th at the Grand Ballroom of the Cascadia Hotel, as he performs his latest CD.

Tickets to this single-night performance in Trinidad are priced at TT$250.00 and are available at:

  • Stechers - Long Circular Mall;
  • Kanhai Raghubir Jewellers Stores at Trincity Mall and at Curepe Junction;
  • WMJX 100.5 FM radio studios of at 9 Long Circular Road.
